Gas Mask (ca. 1914)

Chemical warfare was introduced during World War I. The first Americans arriving in France used British gas masks. Production began almost immediately to outfit American troops with necessary gas masks. This is a Richardson-Flory-Kops Mask known as the "RFK Mask", which went into production in February 1918. The design is an improved version of the Corrected English Mask. Around 3 million were produced during the war.
