Uniform (ca. 1917)

This uniform belonged to John William Mains, who served with the 40th Infantry Division, also called the "Sunshine Division", with the American Expeditionary Forces. He left for France in October 1918 and returned in April 1919. A longtime Fremont County resident, Mains was born in Rockvale in 1893. Prior to the war, he worked as a coal miner at the Nonac Mine. When he returned, he married Cora Woodford and worked for many years at the Cañon City Post Office.
