Soldiers at the Front

There were a few local men like Private Clark Nesbit of Cañon City who saw action on the front lines during World War I. These men shared some of their experiences in letters home. The Army prohibited soldiers from writing about where they were stationed in France, military operations, and even the weather until Germany signed an armistice agreement ending the war on November 11, 1918.

Letter (1918)

This letter written by Clark Nesbit to his parents illustrates the censorship of correspondences sent from military personnel to family back home.
