Around The World in 80 Artifacts

Recreation and Collectors

Many of the multicultural artifacts in the museum's collection came from recreational traveling or collecting by donors. People travel for enjoyment and to experience different lands and cultures. These travelers were lucky to live in a country that allowed them the freedom to experience the world around them. They were also fortunate to afford the expenses of travel. For the collectors, they were lucky to have friends or family who either lived or visited those places.

In this photo, local businessman and avid hunter Dall DeWeese is on an extended world tour through Africa and Asia.
